Two Types of Fear

Watch Live on our youtube channel “The First Channel”

There’s a bad type of fear.

  • Deep rooted fear is worse than the things we are actually fearful of – 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
  • Job had the thing he’d feared come upon him – Job 3:25-26.
  • But, most of all, we fear man – Matthew 10:28 (NLT) – Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

But there’s also a good type of fear.

  • We overcome the spirit of fear by fearing God – Proverbs 3:5-8 (NLT) – Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones.
  • The fear of the Lord is where it all starts for the believer – Psalms 128:1 (NKJV) – Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways.

You are going to fear something.

  • The two types of fear often are in direct opposition with each other – Daniel 3:16-18 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. 18 But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”
  • Fear is the opposite of faith – Matthew 8:26 (NKJV) – But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.

There is no plan B for those fear God.

  • The fear of God will make you hungry for the things of God – Matthew 5:6 (AMP) – Blessed [joyful, nourished by God’s goodness] are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness [those who actively seek right standing with God], for they will be [completely] satisfied.

Whom will you fear?
